Amrit Kapoor, born and brought up in Kolkata, started playing mandolin when he was 14 and started picking up some simple songs by ear. He used to love watching rock concerts and wanted to be one of the guitarists but was too occupied academically to start. He started guitar in a funny way many years back. He used to teach maths and science after school, and used to love to hear one of the students strum guitar. Now when this student needed a guitar teacher and he couldn’t find one, Amrit took a guitar instructional dvd from him, learnt guitar himself through the dvd and then taught the student guitar. He then went on to teach many more students who are all guitarists in some band or the other now.
He went on to learn advanced guitar from some of the leading guitarists in India.
Amrit made a band called Paint In Black,a classic rock band deriving influences from the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd etc. He then went on to have professional training in Indian classical vocals, tabla and keyboards as well.
Amrit then moved to Mumbai One and a half years back and started working with Shamir Tandon(of Page 3, Traffic Signal, Bluffmaster fame) and worked with him as his Assistant Music Director and worked on various projects in films- Jail, Acid factory, Bal ganesh 3, Mallika, 332 Mumbai to India and various projects yet to be released. He has also worked on jingles like Binani cement, Idea cellular, Max Newyork life insurance, etc.
His career soared another height when he was the official musician touring with team of project Lotus to hold auditions and select 5 girls from India for a global pop band.
Apart from all this Amrit has also played as a session’s guitarist and guitar arranger for many Bollywood songs.Currently apart from being a teacher at Guitar Hall he plays guitar in ‘fuse-on’ a fusion band and is involved in doing movie projects, jingles, playing as a sessions guitarist and doing concerts with his band.
