A classical pianist, organist, keyboardist and music teacher by training, Tristan Poirier was born in Paris, France.

Specializing in piano, his music is noted for its sensory component and how it is not often formed around one key or pitch. At a very tender age he was surprised by the communicative effect of musical instruments, attracted by the fantastic power of this language, he chose the piano as his instrument to transmit his passion. Captivated by the musical language, he keeps on devoting his entire life to find technical means to make music more expressive.

The piano allows the artist to express each peculiarity of his art, as if it was the continuity of his deepest conscience. It instantaneous echoes every gesture and every infinitesimal intention of the musician. Aware of the difficulty to deal with this new challenge, Tristan knew that the piano was the only one able to represent and translate “his voice”.

Today, Tristan works as a Piano and Keyboards teacher across various centers of Guitar Hall across Mumbai and Pune. He is regularly invited to lead some master classes meetings in Europe; he takes part in symphony orchestra and also in the choir of the French Army. He is also actively involved in vocal realm and is an accomplished singer. Sensitive both by the sincerity of the artist and the modernity of his piano performance, the students can find here their own roots as well as those of an exceptional instrument for which Tristan Poirier initiates an unexpected revival.

Tristan specializes in western classical music from middle age to XIX century, rendered thesis about R. Wagner and also specializes in choral direction.

He has completed Diplome de Fin d Etudes en piano (piano diploma) 2001 and composition and harmony diploma from State Music Academy, France.

His renditions of Beethoven, Mozart and Bach are priceless and captivates students and teachers alike at Guitar Hall.

His great interest and passion in composing remains stronger than ever .Besides that, his love for discovering new things, working with interesting people and discovering new aspects of the musical world, as well as new Musical Universes, has brought him closer to the Mumbai music audience through Guitar Hall.

Hailing from Dimapur – Nagaland, Toshi has performed in numerous successful Rock bands both in Nagaland and across India. He has also done lead guitar duties for the renowned band from Nagaland ‘LOST PARK’. This proved to be a pivotal point in confirming Toshi’s status as a rising guitar virtuoso.

Toshi started playing guitars at the age of fourteen and he was immediately hooked and developed an obsession for practice, learning everything and anything he could get his hands on. Guitar Techniques formed a huge part of Toshi’s growth in the early years allowing him to learn solos and concepts of guitar greats.Though mainly self taught he has studied and jammed under distinguished guitarists from Nagaland.

He has forged his own guitar playing style by drawing influence from many of the guitar greats most particularly Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Eric Johnson but it is his individual lead guitar skill that pushes all his talents to the front.

Toshi currently is a part of the newly formed instrumental Rock band which also features guitar virtuoso’s Kiran Roy and Dhruv Rathod on the Lead Guitars and Aman Gujral on the Bass.

He manages a hectic teaching schedule across various Guitar Hall centers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and has an enviable reputation as a leading exponent of contemporary rock guitar. Toshi says, “To be a guitar student it makes no difference what your age is, At Guitar Hall I have trained students who started playing guitar in their 70s and have turned out to be very good players, I have also taught children from as young as 4 years old they too have turned out to be very talented players.”

This section deals with exercise techniques for the pianists/ keyboardists/ organ players for using both hands together with co-ordination &little independence. The hand independence is more of a mental skill as well, but to begin with, we play equal number of notes but different notes with both the hands,&then a combination of same notes & different notes. Once you have learnt this skill, you can then move on to next step of playing different number of notes with both the hands. So the technique we will first see is :

“The Parallel & Symmetry method” or as some say “Complementary & contrary motion“.

This method has many but three most important forms:

The 5 fingers exercises

The Scales practise

The Arpeggios

Here you will see my video teaching the second part viz. for The Scale:-

I have given some examples on C-major , chromatic but try method on all keys & scales/modes….

However scales with a(/few) different note(s) while ascending (aaroh’ in Indian classical) & different while descending (avorh’) like “The Melodic-Minor” & its relative scales will be a little difficult yet managable with more time & effort added. For instance see my example in same video on G-melodic minor. The only limitations is in where you are using scales & modes with different number of notes while ascending & descending from root to octave & returning for ex: you play any pentatonic scale from root to octave (left to right on keyboard) & any seven note scale from octaveth to the root (right to left on keyboard) (raag des for instance). Here you can not try the symmetry method, it woul be more advisable to practise both the ways individually as different scales.

Once you have got this technique right, it remains more than a method, it trains you for basic harmony and counter-melodies,None the less your alertness ,co-ordination &independence of hands are also evolved better.

I would soon add a video for the arpeggios &plain 5finger exercise. To learn more one can directly contact the institute and start a course immediately, as there is a limitation to share the knowledge. Practise well.

Be classic, stay metal, rock on, keep rolling.
